I started this app and web development journey just under a year ago, and wow, have I learned so much in such a short time.
One of the biggest learning moments wasn't a new tool or a new way to build something. It was the fact that no one in my life cared.
Friends and family either didn't understand what I was doing or just couldn't care less. Probably a bit of both. I felt like an accountant trying to explain what I do all day. I was met with blank stares and "okay, that's cool."
The feeling only builders get
Non-builders just don't understand the pure euphoria of getting that first sale. That feeling of success! The thought that wow, someone finally gets it!
I got that feeling with my first sale on my first product. If you've built something and put it out there, you probably know exactly the feeling I mean.
So I built something to celebrate with
I built Slap Alert partly so I could celebrate for myself. The monkey jumping down my screen and slapping a sale alert just made me smile, and I thought, well, maybe this will make someone else smile who is in the same boat.
If you haven't seen it: a pixel-art monkey hangs from a vine in the top-right corner of my Mac's screen. When a sale comes in, he swings down and slaps a sticky note onto the screen with who paid and how much.
Who I want to meet
I want to meet more indie founders who aren't trying to change the world, but just want to celebrate this journey. Have fun with all the ideas we can bring to life.
Happy building, friends.
